I have to rate this game a solid '7' out of 10, which in my book is not too bad at all. Even though its multi-directional firing is a bit gimmicky, what with the overall best firing pattern (the 4-way diagonal shot) leaving you unable to fire directly in front of your ship, it's still a fun game. The last two levels are quite difficult, with the penultimate level being difficult in that just to survive th stage, one may not wish to fully upgrade one's speed, because the walls get very tight, and too much speed make maneuvering much more difficult.

Anyway, I REALLY enjoy multi-player games, and this is one of the few 2-player simultaneous shoot-'em-ups available for the PC Engine. After reading a comparison of this version and the Sega version, I have to say that I wish that this version still had the Hellfire cannon, even if it were assigned to the 'Select' button, because with it and a 3-button pad, this game would be so much better. (Sometimes after you've been hit, and your power level is back down to level one, the powerful shot of the Hellfire cannon would be greatly appreciated.)

If you like shoot-'em-ups, then get this game, play it, and beat it.

I love Hellfire and I love everything about this port of it, I even like it more then the actual arcade pcb.

9 Out of 10,but keep in mind I have always been a heavy fan of Hellfire. Alot of people hate this game terribly.
