While this presents itself as a Street Fighter style fighting game, it feels more like a beat em up with its one attack button, pre-designed 3 hit combos, invulnerability after you get knocked down, and very few special moves. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, as it's nice to see one fighter of this era that wasn't just aping SF2 again, but it does mean that there's little depth to keep you coming back.
The main draw of this game is its presentation. In addition to having lots of fully voiced cut scenes, complete with digitized commercial bumpers between episodes, they went to the trouble of redrawing all the sprites to have the correct outfits to fit the episodes that they recreated. I don't think I've ever run into another 2D fighter that took the time and effort to do that.
This is one of those games where I'm fairly certain that fans of the franchise would have a good time with, but I'm not sure if there's much for anyone who isn't. Like it's still interesting to see how they went about it (and how they managed to pull it off better than the similar Godzilla game on the PCE), but there are other fighting games that have more to the actual gameplay.
