As a sci-fi/horror first person shooter that came out on an 8-bit console two years before Doom, Silent Debuggers might be the TG16's biggest anachronism. And it might be the most forward thinking game Data East ever put out. Still, it may seem archaic to people used to modern fps games. In particular, this is an evolution of the first person dungeon crawler, complete with one tile at a time movement and no ability to face any direction other than the four cardinal directions. And as this was stuck on a hucard, there wasn't room for much graphic variety, and many reviewers complain that every room looks the same and that almost all enemies are pallet swaps of one design. While they're not wrong, I found the core gameplay loop solid enough to keep me playing through to the end, even if trying to track down that one last monster in a level could get a little annoying.

This is one of those unique PCE titles that wasn't quite like anything else at the time, like Gomola Speed, Hani on the Road, Gekisha Boy, or Mesopotamia. Like the others, people usually either love it or hate it, but I think everyone should try it.

Tough gameplay and quite difficult to find your way through the maze the game that is. I thought is was more fun, quite disappointed to be honest.
